I don’t think there’s a single person that has been unaffected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We’re all navigating the same storm, finding our own way through in the best way we can, and in dentistry it’s no different.
The whole of the dental profession has been impacted significantly, mainly due to changes in regulation as a result of routine treatments that involve the production of aerosols.
Many of our everyday treatments such as scaling, and fillings involve the use of aerosol (a fine mist of water spray) which mixes with saliva. As such, it has been proposed that this may present a higher risk to dental care professionals, so we now have to take an even higher level of precaution than we normally do.
This issue has had a huge impact on how we run our daily clinic – we are still able to use our handpieces and “ultrasonic” scalers, but when we do, we need to wear protective respirator masks and surgical gowns and the surgery that they are used in needs to be shut down for an hour after the procedure. It’s physically far more demanding so please spare a thought for your team as they do their absolute best for you at this difficult time.
As you can imagine, this change to our procedures has had a huge impact on the volume of work we are able to carry out, when coupled with the reduced number of people we can accommodate due to social distancing.
The good news is that we are fully open, providing a full range of dental treatments. We’re in high demand so please be patient if you are trying to book in to see us.
My team have been working so hard getting to grips with the new ways of working so please support them in every way you can. Check the video on the website which explains what to do when you arrive at the practice and don’t forget to BRING A MASK to your appointment to wear in the waiting room.
We’re still unclear if this is how things will be for the long-term. I guess no-one really knows but you can be certain that here at Coppice View we have your safety as our top priority. If you’re unsure or would like to speak to a member of our team to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on your dental care, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
