Invisalign – thinking about a straighter smile post-lockdown.

Invisalign Go with Sherif

Have you ever looked at your teeth and thought, hmm they could be straighter? Ever flicked through your photos and thought my smile could be a bit better or even looked at a model on the front cover of a magazine and thought gosh, they have lovely teeth but I don’t want braces at this stage of my life.

Well, look no further, it has never been easier to straighten your teeth using a transparent, easy, light and quick product.  People won’t notice them from a social distance which means you can smile more even during treatment. They are removable, no brackets, no wires and zero hassle. The results are also very predictable as you get to see the final shape of your teeth suing the latest digital software.

So, what is Invisalign?

Invisalign is considered by many patients as an aesthetic easy alternative to traditional metal braces.  They are virtually invisible and use the latest in 3D technology to show you the complete treatment plan and what your final smile would look like before you commit to any treatment.

They are essentially a series of clear aligner dental trays which are worn for 22 hours of the day.  The aligners have controlled movements guiding the tooth into the final planned position over a series of aligners.

Invisalign has gained popularity in the last 10 years due to its aesthetically pleasing physical appearance, ease of use, less dental visits compared to fixed braces and is able to achieve the alignment much quicker than traditional braces.

How does it work?

Millions of US dollars in research has enabled Invisalign to use fine precise engineering and software to produce the aligners using sophisticated medical grade thermoplastic materials.  Those aligners are designed to push against your teeth to produce movement, rotation, tipping and aligning. They are small controlled movements, unlike traditional braces where the forces are heavier, Invisalign aligners control the amount of movement each aligner delivers and the timing of this movement.  Also, if you have an implant or teeth we don’t wish to move, we can specify not to move such teeth so they will not be affected by the aligners.

How long do I wear it for?

For the movements to happen, you must wear the aligners for 22 hours of the day for the recommended treatment period.  You are only taking them out to eat, drink and brush your teeth.  Compliance here is the key to successful treatment, if it is not worn for the recommended 22 hours then result will vary and will cause delays in your smile journey.

The ClinCheck will determine how many aligners you will need which you change weekly. This will give you an idea of which days you will need to attend the clinic for reviews, leaving you to focus on the affairs that matter to you most without thinking about dental appointments.

They may discolour and in rare occasions break towards the end of the week.  But it is ok as you should be moving to the next aligner.  We will be spending a lot of time educating you on Invisalign and how it works, it is very simple and as long as you are compliant, and your oral hygiene is good then you will be able to detect movements and see changes almost immediately.

Does it hurt?

Some people may experience temporary minor discomfort in the beginning of the treatment and the teeth may feel tender and pressure to begin with.  This is good, it means the aligners are working and actually starting to move the teeth in the right place.  Dr sherif and his team would advise softer diet to begin with until this temporary discomfort disappears which in most people takes a couple of days.

Are you interested in Invisalign?

If Invisalign sounds like something you’d be interested in, then you may be wondering how to start your treatment journey! Why don’t you check out our website where you can have an initial virtual consultation with Dr Sherif and his team in the comfort of your own home.  All you have to do is fill out a simple online form and upload a couple of photographs of tour teeth highlighting your concern and we will call you to schedule an online meeting where you can interact with the dentist in a safe manner in this post covid-19 world where “teledentistry” will be the new normal.  Alternatively, you can email or call the practice to schedule a visit.

But, is it right for me?

Invisalign is without doubt the largest orthodontic brand in the world.  Many patients from all ages and walks of life across the continents have been successfully treated with Invisalign and that has created millions of happy smiles across the globe.  Invisalign is suitable for all age groups including the elderly and teenagers who don’t quite qualify for treatment under the NHS.

However, we don’t just hand you the aligners without really looking into why you are seeking this treatment and also whether your teeth are in the right condition to receive those clear aligners.

We are able to resolve a lot of dental issues with Invisalign such as:

  • Crooked, malaligned, “sticking out” teeth.
  • Deep bites
  • Open bites
  • Rotations
  • Closes gaps

Invisalign therefore offers a solution to almost every situation.  We offer a free initial consultation where we can discuss this in detail.  Why don’t you book in for a complimentary consultation and see if Invisalign is really for you.

I heard that teeth can move after treatment, is this true?

The answer is yes to a certain extent, teeth tend to want to move back to their original pre-treatment position and the risk is higher in some cases than others.  You might be familiar with teenagers you have come across in your world who have had braces and by the time they reach their mid-twenties they find that their teeth have moved position but nevertheless, we advise all patients to follow our strict retention protocol to ensure that their new smile will be retained in the new position for a longer period of time.  This will involve wearing thermoplastic retainers at night time for lifelong retention.

How much does it cost?

As with anything in dentistry, this will depend on the complexity of the case.  This is an investment in your smile and the range of this investment ranges from £2,500 to £5,500.  The investment includes the following:

  • All your consultation and scan fees
  • All your visits and aligners
  • Follow up calls
  • Troubleshooting
  • Emergency visits
  • Advice from Dr Sherif or Alice and Marie (treatment coordinators)
  • Retainers
  • Whitening worth £300
  • Bonding on the edges of the tooth

How do I pay for the treatment?

We understand how tough it has been during the lockdown.  Therefore, we want to offer you flexible payment options for your smile investment. Please feel free to either come in or discuss all these options (including interest free finance) with our treatment coordinator and then we can see the best way for you to move forward with your investment.

Ok, Invisalign suits me, what next?

Once we have had the initial consultation and we have made our initial checks that Invisalign is suitable for you, we would proceed by digitally scanning your teeth and a series of photographs to upload onto the Invisalign software.  Dr Sherif  will compile a list of issues which requires resolving and would prescribe a treatment to a team of highly skilled and experienced orthodontic technicians who would be able to digitally manipulate your teeth from the scan and solve the issues you presented with.

The software is called ClinCheck and this offers a great advantage that you are able to see the final position of your teeth in your own mouth with your own smile which will make you look forward to completing the treatment.

We look forward to you starting your new smile journey with us soon.
