What are Veneers?
Veneers are a dental cosmetic option to improve the appearance of cracked, chipped, broken or discoloured teeth. A thin porcelain layer is permanently bonded over the tooth to hide any imperfections.
What are the main stages?
The tooth is prepared by removing a tiny amount of the enamel surface to ensure a strong bond with the veneer. The amount of enamel removed is the same thickness as the veneer so that the tooth remains the same size.
Your dentist will then take an ‘impression’ or mould of your tooth to ensure that the veneer fits perfectly.
The colour of the surrounding teeth is matched on a shade guide to make sure that the veneer will look entirely natural.
Once the veneer has been made, your dentist will bond it to your tooth with a special adhesive that will provide a permanent fix.
How long will it take?
Usually, two visits to your dentist are required. The first is to prepare the tooth and the second is to fit the veneer.
How do I look after my veneer?
Twice a day brushing with a fluoride toothpaste for at least two minutes will help keep your veneer in great shape.
